Okay...why do we need to teach 12 and 13 year olds to sleep in the cold and eat bad food? I went on an overnight campout with the scouts. It was our son Nick's first campout with the scouts. Like a good father, I packed the car, bought new sleeping bags and a new tent, and generally prepared to spend the night freezing my $%# off (I really don't swear but I added the symbols for effect).
I love being around the youth. I have spent many years working with youth, but I have to say that Boy Scouts stink! It typically takes a couple of days, after a campout, for my car to return to its original smell. They also have funny personalities. All in all, they crack me up. I wish I had the energy that they do. Maybe some day I'll get back in shape and maybe some day a monkey might fly up my...(no swearing).
For now, I think my only campouts will be in the summer, on my air mattress (until I buy my first motorhome), and eating good food.
